This project involved improvements to the Martin Goodman Trail west of Ontario Place to approximately Jameson Avenue. It was the first construction project undertaken by Waterfront Toronto. It included:
closing and demolishing a city street along the waterfront for trails and parkland development approximately 2 kilometres of high-capacity asphalt trail, including a primary waterfront promenade and a bypass trail a 700-metre long promenade that includes a wide pedestrian area and elevated boardwalk a large viewing platform at trail level, and cantilevered partially over the water a seating and gathering area extensive perennial and shade tree plantings.
With a relatively modest budget and a lot of actual ground to cover, our team provided a design that transformed a significantly run-down part of the waterfront into a high-quality amenity that also functions very well as a high-quality active transportation corridor.
This project received a Regional Award of Merit from the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects [CSLA] in 2011
